Employee Pickleball Ladder League presented by Performance Pickleball Roanoke

Performance Pickleball Roanoke logo

Join the Virginia Tech Employee Pickleball Ladder League—an inclusive, fun, and competitive way for all VT employees to stay active and connect through weekly match play!

  • Registration closed August 31

  • Doubles teams (2 players, at least one must be a current VT employee)

  • $10 per team

  • During registration, you'll self-report your skill level using a provided pickleball skill scale—just give it your best guess!

  • Open to all skill levels

  • All communication will be via email

  • Runs for 10 weeks, from September 8 – November 12

  • One match per week, played between 12–1 p.m. on Mondays or Wednesdays

    • Top ladder teams typically play on Mondays

    • Lower ladder teams typically play on Wednesdays

    • Fridays reserved for make-up games

  • Matches are held at the Washington Street Courts on Virginia Tech’s campus

  • If teams cannot play at their scheduled time, they may reschedule and report scores by Friday at 11 p.m.

  • Substitutes are allowed if a team member can’t play

  • Teams that forfeit more than three times will be removed from the league

 

  • 1st Place: Two Individual Elite Tier Memberships

  • 2nd Place: Individual Performance Tier Memberships

Walking Club

Take a break and get moving with weekly walks every Thursday at noon, or on your own time. Meet at War Memorial Hall lobby and enjoy fresh air, light activity, and connection with colleagues. Weekly walks will take place up through November 13th.

Free Weekly Fitness Classes

Throughout the fall semester, Rec Sports is offering a weekly class designed for employees to explore a variety of fitness options and connect with colleagues. See below for the schedule. No need to sign up, just show up. First-come, first-served. No membership required.

Water Fitness

September 16th, 23rd, and 30th | 7 AM | McComas Hall Pool

This fun, energizing 30-minute class takes place in the pool and combines cardio, strength, and flexibility exercises using the natural resistance of water. Perfect for all fitness levels, it’s easy on the joints but delivers a full-body workout that leaves you feeling refreshed, strong, and stress-free.

 

Throughout the month of October, Rec Sports has partnered with Jazzercise NRV to bring employees a taste of Jazzercise.

Jazzercise Intro Class: Cardio Sculpt 45

October 7th  | 12:15-12:45pm | War Memorial Hall Studio 160

Feel lighter, stronger, and happier after 30 minutes of high-intensity, dance-based cardio followed by strength training and stretching. This beginner-focused class improves heart health, tones muscles, and gives an energizing mood boost. All levels welcome!

Jazzercise Power Sculpt HIIT 45

Boost metabolism and improve stamina with this energizing combination of interval exercises and muscle-defining strength training.

Build lean muscle, improve mobility, and support bone health in this full-body strength training class.

This November, let’s move with purpose and gratitude! Join the Miles of Gratitude Club by challenging yourself to be active for 150 minutes each week throughout the month. Whether it’s walking, running, biking, or this STEP class—every minute counts! Track your activity through Strava, and everyone who completes the challenge will earn some exclusive Hokie Movement swag. Let’s celebrate movement, mindfulness, and gratitude—one minute at a time!

Toughest Hokie Obstacle Course Race

September 21st | 10 AM | Upper Quad

Are You Tough Enough? Take on the Toughest Hokie — an endurance obstacle course race through Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg campus! Hosted with the Corps of Cadets, the race kicks off Sunday, September 21st 10 AM.
Choose your challenge:

Maroon: 4+ miles, 8 obstacle stations

Orange: 6+ miles, 10 obstacle stations

Start and finish at the Upper Quad, racing through iconic campus landmarks like the Corps’ Obstacle Course and Venture Out Challenge Course!
Early bird registration ($35) through September 1 — includes a custom event t-shirt! Registration increases to $55 on September 2 (t-shirts not guaranteed after the 2nd).

Sound Healing

Need a moment to just breathe? Join Rec Sports for a chill session designed to help you relax and recharge. We're hosting a sound healing session—an immersive experience filled with calming, ethereal sounds that help slow your mind, ease your stress, and bring you back to center. Just lay back, listen, and let the peaceful vibes wash over you.

Full Moon Yoga

October 6th  | 8:00-8:45pm | Drillfield

Join Rec Sports for a 45-minute outdoor yoga session under a full moon! The class begins at 8:00PM on the Drillfield. Glow sticks provided and there will be a raffle for a Hokie stone YOGA mat. Bring your own yoga mat or towel. No pre-registration required, and the event is open to students and employees.

Feel Good 5k

Live Music Yoga

Join us for a magical blend of music and movement with the enchanting Amelia Empson! Come to War Memorial Hall, Studio 160 for a fusion of live music and yoga, where every stretch is accompanied by the soulful rhythms of a local gem! Seize your spot early, as it's first come, first served for the first 30 yogis in each class. No need for a group ex pass—just bring good vibes, and a friend if you like!

Hokie Movement

September 1st - September 30th 

This September, it’s time to get moving—one letter at a time! Join the Hokie Movement challenege by spelling out the word HOKIE through five different workouts or activities. From hiking to high ropes, kickboxing to kettlebells, obstacle courses to outdoor runs, the possibilities are endless.

Track your activities on STRAVA by tagging the letter you’ve completed. Join the STRAVA club here.

Not a standard STRAVA option? No problem—snap a pic or write a short explanation to share your creativity.

Finish the challenge and earn an NEW and exclusive Hokie Movement T-shirt (while supplies last). Celebrate your hard work with us on September 30th at our end-of-month event!

Hokie Hike

October 17th - November 17th 

The Hokie Hike is back, and it’s time to hit the trail! This fall, Hokies around the globe are heading outdoors. When you register, a portion of your fee supports outdoor recreation for current students — helping to build community and well-being. Plus, you’ll score some exclusive Hokie hiking gear like a short sleeve T-shirt or cinch bag. There are also registration options for kids and pets!
