The Venture Out Challenge Course, a part of Recreational Sports, is a state-of-the-art high ropes challenge course that recently opened in Fall 2018. The course is located behind the Marching Virginian Practice Field and the Sport Clubs fields and can be seen from the Huckleberry Trail. Activities will be open to Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and students as well as off-campus groups, non-profits, birthday parties, and corporate groups.

The Venture Out Challenge Course and Portable Initiatives offer a variety of activities through a series of fun and unusual games and problem solving obstacles. Participants will learn valuable information about themselves, working with one another, and functioning as a team. Designed to accelerate a group though the stages of group development, these activities encourage group cohesion through communication, trust, team-work, coaching, self-esteem, leadership, problem solving, civility, and fun. In addition to these commonly cited benefits, the Challenge Course offers higher-level outcomes, including increases in effectiveness and efficiency, building relationships, developing understanding, setting goals, brainstorming ideas, and task accomplishment.
