Senior Stories: Sammi Crittenden
From War Memorial to McComas to now the Field House, Sammi Crittenden is no stranger to the family she has found at Rec Sports. After jumping eagerly into the role her freshman year with hopes just to stay more active, Crittenden has found much more than that.
“The environment that David, [Facility Manager], has created for the students working here is great,” Crittenden explained. “It is not a high stress job, and the family oriented [team] has made me comfortable going to anyone here with any problems.”
Crittenden is majoring in HNFE, and her time at Rec Sports has been able to help her grow in her time at Virginia Tech.
“I [started college] with only having a few friends, but [this job] has completely broadened my horizons and experiences through showing me how much more is out there and exposing me to the diversity and great opportunities that [Virginia Tech] has to offer. ”
As Crtitenden takes a step back to evaluate her time working here, she can’t help but emphasize flexibility; both in and out of the job.
“You have to be flexible because anything can happen,” said Crittenden. “In this job, people could get injured or need help at any moment so you need to have flexibility. That also applies to outside of work. Flexibility in time management and balancing school work is key.”
After pondering what pieces of advice Crittenden wanted to share, she picked a simple, yet clear, statement for anyone who is looking to enhance their college experience.
“If you have the opportunity, then you need to work for Rec Sports.”
After graduating in May, Crittenden will be attending Emory & Henry University to pursue her Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
