Senior Stories: Leah Wood

Whether it’s flag football, basketball, or softball, you have probably seen Leah Wood on the sidelines as an official or supervisor for Intramurals over the past four years. Wood has been employed throughout all of her college years, but to her, it hasn’t quite felt like that.

“Working [for intramurals] has not felt like work to me,” said Wood. “It has become a place to come, feel included, and be with some of my best friends that I met here. It has been an exciting environment whether through working or just playing intramural sports.”

Wood first discovered this job from a mass email, and that opportunity has sparked a great four years for her.

“The atmosphere created here is unbeatable. Clark and Jeff, [Intramural Managers], have been great people to work for and have truly enhanced my college experience through new opportunities.”

When Wood thinks back and reflects over all her experiences in her many roles, a trip back in January 2020 first came to mind.

“I got the opportunity to go to the NIRSA Flag Football Nationals down in Texas and be a ref, ” Wood exclaimed. “Since it was January of 2020, it was one of the few last opportunities I got before COVID and it was a great time.”

A takeaway for Wood this year is how adaptable the staff has been during this uncertain year.

“We have preserved and been able to safely hold intramurals during this pandemic, and it just shows how resilient and creative our staff is.”

Wood will be moving to Charleston, SC after graduating in May to work as a Professional Development Forester for Weyerhaeuser.
