Internship/Field Study
The Department of Recreational Sports offers practicum/field study opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to earn academic credit.
Areas are:
- Special Events
- Fitness
- Research/Assessment
- Weight Lifting TA
- Exercise Leadership TA
- Wellness
Other areas of specialization may be available as requested and needed. Applicants can receive 1-6 academic credits while working 3-10 flexible hours per week.
Special Events: Assist in implementing and executing Special Events such as 5K's, Master Classes, and workshops
Fitness: Gain hands-on experience in Fitness Management as it relates to Group Ex, Personal Training, Small Group Training, Fitness Assessment, Youth Programs and Incentive Programs.
Research/Assessment: Execute studies and/or department projects, and write learning outcomes and reports for such studies.
Facilities: Assist in scheduling, managing, and operating recreational facilities.
Weight Lifting TA: Serves as an assistant for Weight Lifting class (Must be available on T/R 8:00-9:15am and/or 9:30-10:45am; Please mark on your application which shift you are available for.)
Exercise Leadership TA: Serves as an assistant for HNFE 2254: Exercise Leadership - Group Fitness Instructor in Fall or HNFE 2264: Exercise Leadership - Personal Trainer in Spring or Summer II. Must be a current VT Fitness Personal Trainer and/or Group Exercise Instructor and available T/R 9:30-10:45 (Fall/Spring) or MTWR 9:30-10:45am (Summer II)
Wellness: Assist in planning and implementing student wellness programs, presentations and workshops.
