Virtual Group Exercise Membership

New to the spring 2021 semester, all (more than 90 each week) of our in-person group exercise classes will be live-streamed every week, providing the top-quality high-energy classes you’re used to with Rec Sports! For $25, VT students and employees gain live-stream access to our classes.

Gratitude Heals: A Journaling Journey

Session Dates: February 2-23 (virtual meetings)

  • Employees: Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m.
  • Students: Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m.

About:  Join Rec Sports for a 4-week gratitude journey. The world has become quite small and ever so connected due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For most of us, our work is now remote. Feelings of fear, stress, and anxiety have been brought on by the sheer uncertainty of the pandemic.

These four, one-hour facilitated sessions, using the special edition of Gratitude Heals Workbook - Healing the World in a COVID-19 Crisis, will give participants immediate access to information that will inspire and guide them during these challenging times. The content is based on the science of gratitude and supporting insights from the fields of neuroscience and positive psychology. The gratitude exercises will further heighten participants' awareness of the associated health and well-being benefits. 

The final session will culminate in a Q and A with author and Virginia Tech alum, Linda Roszak Burton. She will share the insight she has gained through decades of research on gratitude and the positive impacts it has on our mental and physical well-being. She will also give participants the tools they need to continue to actively practice gratitude after the sessions are complete.

Hokie Movement Club: Student Exercise Incentive Program

If you’re looking for motivation to move this semester, Rec Sports is here to help! Virginia Tech students near and far are invited to join the Hokie Movement Club. 

Members record their workouts and engage virtually through a free exercise app called Strava. Using Strava will allow students to log workouts, encourage each other, and compete in Rec Sports led incentive challenges throughout the fall semester. 

This club will resume in March 2021, but students can register at any time!

Employee Movement Club

Virginia Tech employees are invited to join a movement club where members will engage virtually through a free exercise app called Strava. Using Strava will allow employees to log workouts, encourage each other, and compete in challenges throughout the summer.

Employee Movement Club members will receive a weekly email that sends encouragement, explains the weekly/daily challenges, and will announce the prize winners from the previous week. All skill and ability levels are encouraged to join.

This club will resume in the summer of 2021, but employees can register at any time by clicking here to sign up. Once you fill out the short interest form, you will receive a welcome e-mail with step-by-step instructions on downloading the app and joining the club. 

Virtual Escape Room

Test your Virginia Tech trivia to save the HokieBird in our Virtual Escape Room!

The objective of a typical escape room is to navigate through themed rooms by finding clues and solving puzzles. The Rec Sports Virtual Escape Room recreates this experience virtually by taking you through a written adventure along with pictures, videos, and multiple choice questions.

Users can complete this escape room individually or compete against friends. Simply work together or enter the challenge separately and see who can escape first!

Hokie Fit Online Training

A free 2-week training program that includes a workout plan and tutorial videos for each workout.

2-Week Running Programs

We're excited to share two running programs that will get you off the couch and ready to enjoy running! Beginner and intermediate programs are offered and provide a 14-day training schedule to work up to running a 5K.
