Venture Out presents: Hokie Adventure Showcase

Get inspired. Get connected. Get outside.

This event will bring together the outdoor community at Virginia Tech for a night of shared stories and inspiration. We have a program of student films that will highlight adventures big and small.

Come and celebrate the adventurous spirit we have in our Hokie community. The event will also include opportunities to get to know others with similar outdoor interests. We have 6 clubs committed to participating in the event through tabling at the event and promoting with their members.

This event is free and open to the public. There will be a raffle for various prizes and well as opportunities to win swag.

A Call for Submissions

Adventure Showcase celebrates the Hokie outdoor spirit through student-created short films, photo slideshows, and personal stories. Whether your adventure took you across the world or just across campus, we want to hear it.

This is your opportunity to share your story, express your creativity, and inspire the Virginia Tech outdoor community.

Submit Your Adventure Concept

We are currently accepting concept submissions for this year’s Adventure Showcase. Your submission does not need to be fully developed—simply share your idea and the story you want to tell.

Important Dates

  • The showcase is still accepting limited submissions. If you are interested in submitting a work please email pettytm@vt.edu by the due date below.

  • Final Work Due: March 23, 2026

Submission Formats

Participants may submit in one of the following formats:

Short Films

Length: 2–8 minutes
Document your adventure through film—recorded professionally, on a smartphone, or anywhere in between.

Photo Slideshows

Length: 3–5 minutes
A sequence of photos paired with narration, music, or captions to tell your story.

Live Personal Stories

Length: 5–7 minutes
Share your adventure live on stage. Stories may be funny, powerful, reflective, or challenging.

Submission Guidelines

To ensure a high-quality, inclusive, and smoothly run event, please review the guidelines below.

General Guidelines

  • Adventures must be real, student-centered, and connected to the outdoors.

  • Content must be appropriate for a campus-wide audience.

  • Stories may be humorous, reflective, adventurous, or emotional, but should celebrate exploration and personal growth.

Short Film Requirements

  • Length: 2–8 minutes

  • File formats: .mp4 or .mov

  • Music must be original or royalty-free

  • Film must be your own work or co-created with a student team

Photo Slideshow Requirements

  • Length: 3–5 minutes

  • May include narration, captions, music, or voiceover

  • Music must be original or royalty-free

  • Submit as a video file (.mp4 or .mov) or PowerPoint (.pptx)

Live Storytelling Requirements

  • Length: 5–7 minutes

  • Presenters must attend a required rehearsal on March 26 at 6 PM

  • Concept submissions may be idea-only

  • Final submissions must include a written outline or script

  • Any background photos must be submitted in a PowerPoint file (.pptx)

Submit your concept using the link below. You will be asked to provide a brief description of your adventure and select your presentation format.
