2020 Virtual Run in Remembrance

Participation details announced for 2020 Virtual Run in Remembrance (April 16-18)

Updated April 12, 2020

Sharing the responsibility to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus and protect the members of its community, Virginia Tech has altered 2020 Day of Remembrance activities, while still commemorating the 32 students and faculty members who were taken from their loved ones on April 16, 2007.

For the 2020 Virtual Run in Remembrance, participants are encouraged to follow this link to join the virtual group by downloading the Stridekick app. Steps and mileage will be tracked from April 16-18 with the group goal of accumulating 32,000 total miles together as Hokies.

The virtual walk/run will be held over a three-day period to encourage proper social distancing and adherence to state and local guidelines. This event is not supporting physical gatherings and is intended to support social connectedness through physical distancing.

Registration is free and users do not need a vt.edu address to participate. Participants who wish to not share their personal information can use an alternate email and name when registering.

While it has been tradition for each participant to walk or run 3.2 miles, this year Hokies everywhere are encouraged to choose a distance that they are comfortable with. This is not a time to stress our bodies or introduce new vigorous activity without a physician's guidance, so it is encouraged to do what is most comfortable while honoring those we lost.

Hokies are encouraged to download the printable bib, wear their favorite orange and maroon, and submit participation photos by using the hashtag #VT32Run on Twitter and Instagram. Photos can also be submitted to the Facebook Event.

When participating, please keep six feet of distance from others and respect local safety guidelines. We urge you not to run in groups or with others and appreciate participation while meeting the current guidelines of local and state authorities.
